For the past few months the National Border Patrol Council has been involved in a comprehensive effort to improve border security, obtain essential resources and enact pay reform through the Border Patrol Pay Reform Act.
As you can imagine, this process has been time-consuming and frustrating: a real test of our patience. Before the Congressional recess, circumstances changed by the day, if not the hour! Because of that uncertainty, there was no easy way to provide you with accurate and concise updates. We can tell you that pay reform legislation continues to move forward and we've had a number of productive meetings on Capitol Hill with Senators, Representatives, and their teams.
It's rare that federal legislation ever passes in its original form. There are always negotiations and compromises, and the give-and-take can seem endless. There's no way to tell exactly what the final version will look like, but we continue to fight for more stable compensation for our members and better border security for our nation.
We want to thank all the lawmakers who have supported and helped us along throughout this process. To our members, we ask for your continued solidarity and patience as we see this through to completion. Stay safe and Honor First.
Article 33 E Step I - Informal grievances must be filed within thirty calendar days after the incident occurs. This time limit will not apply where it is established that the employee had no way of being aware of the incident.
